Liturgy

The liturgy is at the heart of the Catholic faith because it is the Church’s public worship of God and the primary way Catholics participate in the saving work of Jesus Christ. Through the liturgy—especially the celebration of the Eucharist in the Mass—the faithful encounter Christ, receive His grace through the sacraments, and are united as one Body in worship and mission. The Catholic Church teaches that the Eucharist is the “source and summit” of the Christian life because it both nourishes believers with God’s grace and sends them forth to live the Gospel in their daily lives. Every aspect of Catholic life flows from and returns to the Eucharist, making it the center of the Church’s spiritual life and worship. 

Ways that you can serve during the Mass are listed below.

​Lectors

A fully initiated and active Catholic who proclaims the first and second readings during the liturgies.

Gifts to Share
Strong public speaking voice and willingness to proclaim Scripture.

Commitment 
Preparation during the week preceding assigned Mass. Serve as scheduled, arriving at least 15 minutes before Mass. (Training required.)

​Liturgical Musicians​

Sing and/or play a musical instrument during the liturgies and other special events.

Gifts to Share
Love of music, love to sing and/or play.

Commitment
Preparation / practice during the week preceding Mass. Serve as scheduled, arriving at least 30 minutes before Mass. ​

Extraordinary Ministers

A fully initiated and active Catholic, at least 16 years of age who helps distribute the Body and Blood of Christ to the faithful during the liturgies.

Gifts to Share
Faithful, practicing Catholic who can interact respectfully with all people.

Commitment
Serve as scheduled, arriving at least 15 minutes before Mass.

Greeters & Ushers

Welcome people as they arrive for Mass, help organize gift bearers, take up the collection, seat late comers, and pass out bulletins.

Gifts to Share
Be friendly and open to serve your fellow parishioners and visitors.

Commitment:
Serve as scheduled, arriving at least 30 minutes before Mass.​

Offertory Counters

Help count, reconcile and deposit the weekly monetary gifts collected at each Mass.

Gifts to Share
Accuracy with numbers and attention to detail.

Commitment
​Scheduled once a month as a part of a team of three parishioners. Requires careful observance of diocesan financial guidelines and procedures.

Altar Servers

Any person 4th grade and above who is willing to assist the priest celebrant at weekend Masses, holy days, and special liturgies.

Gifts to Share
Desire to serve the community during Mass, ability to reverently pray the liturgy.

Commitment
Serve as scheduled, arriving at least 15 minutes before Mass.
